  • SelectaVision (CED) - not at all optical but a competing format of the DiscoVision LaserDisk and its failure in the market also damaged the image of the LaserDisk.
  • John Logie Baird: invented the Phonodisc, a 250 mm diameter vinyl disk that could reproduce a 30 line, 15 points per line image at a framerate of 12.5 and played back on a gramophone as early as 1928! But ... not optical, sorry!
